In the United States law enforcement officers are killed or seriously injured every day. Officer safety and retention is a critical issue for most departments and requests for prevention training has increased in the past five years.

This course examines information on how and why officers are attacked and/or killed. It is based on three FBI studies, reflected in the publications, "Killed in the Line of Duty" (1992), "In the Line of Fire" (1997), and "Violent Encounters" (2006). Case studies of actual assaults will be reviewed and practical preventive measures will be discussed.

Instructor: Chief Bobby Blankenship- Chief of Police Dothan Airport Police Dept. currently, 25 years with Ozark Police Dept.(retired), Board of Directors Alabama Police Trainer Association, FBI National Academy #249, APOSTC certified instructor since 2004.

This seminar is sponsored by AUM's Alabama Crime Prevention Clearinghouse & Training Institute, the Institute for Criminal Justice Education, Inc., U.S. Attorney's Office, MDA, and ADECA Law Enforcement Planning/Traffic Safety Division. This training is partially funded by an ADECA Law Enforcement Planning subgrant #19-DJ-ST-002 awarded to AUM and its Alabama Crime Prevention Clearinghouse.
