Description: Things your FTO never taught you…and you didn’t even know it….

Field Training Officers have a difficult job in what they must convey to the trainee; all of the things they were taught by their Training Officer and everything they have learned over the years while on the job. This class brings “older techniques and subjects” that may not have been taught, as time demands that Field Training Officers move out of the position and sometimes those years of experience go with them. This class is designed for Patrol Officers, Field Training Officers, prospective Field Training Officers, or any law enforcement officer that wants to learn additional survival techniques that may not have been taught in the past.

Goals: Participants will be able to add new training items/subjects to their FTO Program. This will be accomplished through the presentation of ideas, followed by interaction of the participants to establish the best utilization of these techniques.

Objectives: After this block of instruction, the participant will be able to:

Add new information to their “tool kit” of training new recruits/trainees.
Have discussions of new/old/modified techniques with other FTO’s which will lead to better FTO/Trainee interactions making both safer.

Instructor: Lt. Scott Heath, (Retired)

Scott retired as a Lieutenant from the Dothan AL Police Department after serving for 30 years in a variety of positions including canine handler/trainer, motor officer/instructor, training division, bomb technician/bomb squad commander, EMA liaison, honor guard commander, APOSTC instructor, records division commander and various other positions. He worked for the Ozark Police Department for three years before moving to the Dothan Police Department. For the last two years, Scott has served as a police officer at the Dothan Regional Airport.

Sponsors: This seminar is sponsored by AUM's Alabama Crime Prevention Clearinghouse & Training Institute, the Institute for Criminal Justice Education, Inc., U.S. Attorney's Office, MDA, and ADECA Law Enforcement Planning/Traffic Safety Division. This training is partially funded by an ADECA Law Enforcement Planning subgrant #25-DJ-02-16 awarded to AUM and its Alabama Crime Prevention Clearinghouse.

This APOST Certified (6 hour) training seminar will begin at 9:00 a.m. (registration at 8:30), and will end at 4:00 p.m.

This seminar is open to law enforcement officers only and there is no cost to attend.
