Course Description

Description: Have recent events in Minnesota (George Floyd), Seattle (Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone - CHAZ), New York City Riots, and law enforcement officers attacked by rioters and protesters caused you to wonder what is happening to law enforcement officers in the United States? Are there more cases of civil disobedience with attacks on police or just more media coverage? Are these recent events happening in your community? How are these events affecting officer attitudes and morale? If you are interested in exploring some answers to these questions, this course is for you. The class will take a candid look at the factors driving law enforcement activities today such as changing officer work environments, changes in training, how individual beliefs affect officer-citizen contacts, and dealing with situations that require ethical decision-making.
Some of the significant factors contributing to officers' unethical behaviors are:
" Work Environment
" Training
" Home Life
" Individual Beliefs
" Contact with Citizens
" Dealing with Situations that Require Ethical Decision-making
