Technology is changing daily and in order to protect others, Law Enforcement personnel must be able to use this technology. This program will give the attendee an opportunity to understand the internet as used by predators. This course will provide practical applications and allow students to prepare a computer for undercover operations. It will also allow students the opportunity to establish identities and enter social networking sites for the purpose of identifying and locating suspects.
Students will be able to search sites such as craigslist for specific property as well as predators whose primary purpose is to extort, scam, entice, or take advantage of others. Students will also use the computer using free sites to locate IP addresses, phone numbers, addresses, etc.
This course should provide the basic knowledge of identifying suspects using today’s available technology to include E-mail headers and IP addresses. Sites that may be included are Yahoo, MSN, Craigslist, Facebook, Snap Chat, Instagram, Kik, etc. to name a few, Also included will be suggested samples for subpoenas and preparing for court testimony.
This seminar is sponsored by AUM's Alabama Crime Prevention Clearinghouse & Training Institute, the Institute for Criminal Justice Education, Inc., Alabama Peace Officers' Association, U.S. Attorney's Office, MDA, and ADECA Law Enforcement Planning/Traffic Safety Division. This training is funded by an ADECA Law Enforcement Planning subgrant #15-DJ-ST-008 awarded to AUM and its Alabama Crime Prevention Clearinghouse.
This is a two day training and is APOST Certified for (12 contact hours) each day the seminar will begin at 9:00 a.m. (registration at 8:30), and will end at 4:00 p.m. This seminar is open to law enforcement officers only and there is no cost to attend.
